Under the supervision of the MHPSS Technical Advisor the psychosocial worker will form part of the Rehabilitation mobile team(s) in places of intervention (hospitals, community, care houses etc.). The PSS worker will:

• Assess psycho-social needs of Persons with Impairments (PwI) and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) including children in coordination with the rehabilitation workers.

• Support PwI’s and PwD’s including children in coordination with rehabilitation workers.

• Provide direct response to the psychosocial needs identified through family or group interventions.

• Provide indirect response through referrals to stakeholders working in psychosocial and mental health sector (including close follow-up on the process and response)

1. Project Implementation

• Conduct visits to PwI’s and PwD’s including children in IDP camps, community settings/care houses, hospitals and rehabilitation centers.

• Identify psychosocial needs of PwI’s and PwD’s, their caregivers and their families.

• Provide and coordinate appropriate psychosocial interventions through family and group-based approaches in coordination with HI TA MHPSS.

• Organize PSS activities for adults and children.

• Actively involve beneficiaries’ caregivers at all stages of the assessment and response, in order to ensure sustainability of the intervention.

• Use various communication means (written, spoken, pictures etc) during activities to ensure effective inclusion.

• Identify needs for referrals to psychosocial and mental health stakeholders and monitor referrals conducted in relationship with TA MHPSS and Referral Officer.

• Work in coordination with rehabilitation workers to provide a comprehensive intervention for PwI’s and PwD’s including children

2. Record Keeping and Reporting

• Fill the different assessments and referral forms according to the assessment’s criteria.

• Maintain complete individual files for each person visited, including detailed descriptions of services provided.

• Prepare case studies and Success Stories on beneficiaries and activities of the project

• Respect all guidelines of documentation within the project; keep data records for each individual and group sessions

• Document and report any protection concern and report them to your line manager

• Write weekly activity reports to submit to HI TA MHPSS.

3. Materials Management

• Identify material, equipment, recreational kit needs, timely formulate requests, and ensure appropriate use/distribution

4. Hygiene and security

• The Psychosocial Worker respects and applies basic hygiene rules;

• He/she maintains equipment clean and secured.

• He observes at all times strict commitment to Handicap International Security & Safety regulations as per procedures in place at mission level

• He supports information internal dissemination to relevant focal persons at mission level aiming at reinforcing security and safety of Humanity and Inclusion staff and assets

5. Ethics

• The Psychosocial Worker shows professional ethics

• Among others, he/she respects beneficiary’s privacy and confidentiality (he/she only share medical information with medical staff/persons directly involved in beneficiary’s care).


Professional competencies required

• Diploma in a relevant field

• Previous experience in PSS will be an added advantage

• Experience working with an NGO is preferred

Personal competencies required

• High level of reporting skills

• Good knowledge of computers, i.e., working knowledge of how to use Microsoft Office including Word and Excel

• High level of communication skills, ability to listen and open-mindedness

• Flexibility, ability to work with multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural people

• Able to cope and work in considerably stressful environment

• Good time management and task management skills

• Able to work independently and with autonomy, while following objectives and instructions

• High level of diplomacy, cultural sensitivity and security awareness

• Desire to develop his/her expertise and knowledge.

• Motivated, dynamic; able and willing to take initiatives

• Open and interested in disability issues

• Adheres to the project’s vision: a world in which all forms of disabilities can be prevented, cared for or integrated, and in which the rights of people with disabilities are respected and applied.
