General Post Description

The TVET Education and Business Officer works in close cooperation with the Education Program team based in Gaziantep, contributing to PIN’s education and livelihood activities in two specific TVET centres. The activities are aimed at creating sustainable livelihood opportunities and strengthening self-reliance of the students attending the vocational and educational school in Marat Masrin and Sarmada, with focus on apprenticeship and business creation opportunities. 

The position holder will carry out comprehensive, location-specific market and stakeholders’ mapping and develop corresponding strategies on designing the activities for PIN’s TVET students. He/she will closely liaise with identified actors (individual entrepreneurs, businesses cooperatives, microfinance institutions, commerce unions and similar) to identify existing and emerging livelihood opportunities and concrete actions needed to foster these.

He/she will be responsible for tailor-made capacity building activities for the students, delivering/facilitating context appropriate trainings, monitoring students' uptake and progress. Also, he/she will support the students to increase their self-reliance and income through business training, business coaching and supporting the students to participate in economic opportunities.

Moreover, the TVET Education and Business Officer will also support with the Education related activities taking place in the mentioned two schools.


 

Main responsibilities:

• Support with the identification of fair and logical selection criteria for the students to be supported by apprenticeship or small business grant.

• Explore the best opportunities on the job market for TVET students under each specific occupation, for both male and female students.

• Support with the development of, and supervise and review the business plans that will be applied by the TVET students, and design and fair selection mechanism of those business plans.

• Co-design and conduct market and actors mapping and assessment, as well as communicate with the business owners and the relevant actors.

• Research business creation opportunities, community needs and assets in target areas, taking into account perspective of diverse stakeholders (men/women, individuals /groups/established businesses etc.)

• Facilitate business-oriented trainings and mentoring, tailor-made to the target students’ needs, such as business administration training and accounting management.

• Explore and facilitate creation of market linkages and networks between PIN’s TVET students and relevant market actors/institutions that can assist in stimulating or advancing business development in the target area.

• Work alongside PIN’s TVET team to manage and follow the activities, preparing the needed documentation such as attendance sheets, payment sheets of the TVET centers’ staff and the students’ transportation stipends.

• Making sure that the curriculum and the technical and vocational education is delivered as intended, taking into account inclusion and quality.

• Following all staff-related training and the distribution of the items that takes place in TVET centers, preparing the needs of the required items such as the start-up materials of each profession that is taught in TVET centers.

• Explore and facilitate synergies between PIN’s different sectors of operations (livelihoods, education, agriculture and non-agriculture livelihood activities)

• Identify existing local best practices and inspirational initiatives in the sector.

• Provide inputs and suggestion for future project development within the education sector.

• Provide technical inputs for Monitoring and Evaluation tools to effectively track progress and follow-up of the students.


Desired profile of the candidate:

• Business development facilitation/coaching background and/or own business management experience

• Good knowledge of local enterprise/business environment and stakeholders

• Strong computer literacy

• Good knowledge of English 

• Able to proactively communicate and liaise with range of stakeholders (from individual project beneficiaries, to business owners)

• Passionate about contributing to sustainable and inclusive economic growth in NWS

• Open minded, creative thinker able to think outside the box and actively suggest ideas and solutions

• Experience working with humanitarian or development NGO is an asset

• Understanding of principles of community development and empowerment

• University Education from relevant field Business management, Development Studies, or Marketing management is desired
